Happy August! We want to extend the warmest of hellos to you and your student. Welcome to the Sunset Park Prep family! We look forward to meeting your student IN PERSON on Thursday, September 7th for the first day of school!
We anticipate that as your family prepares for your middle schooler, you must have many questions and wonderings about what 2023-2024 will be like. This email covers three important items:
An invitation to our 6th Grade Virtual Family Forum on WEDNESDAY, August 30th from 6 - 6:45 pm to say hello and answer any questions you may have!
A brief overview of some important information that will help you and your family prepare for the start of the year.
A look-ahead to some important dates for September and a quick overview on communication.
Virtual Family Forum for ALL 6th grade families and students on WEDNESDAY, August 30th from 6:00 - 6:45 pm
We are excited to connect with new-to-Prep families at our virtual Family Forum for new students to share a reminder about who we are, provide an overview of Prep’s first day(s) of school, and of course, get the chance to meet YOU. We will also build in time for questions from attendees.

Quick Details on the Start of the Year
While you can expect more information before the the start of school, we wanted to share a few quick details/frequently asked questions as you begin to prepare to attend Sunset Park Prep.
The first day of school is Thursday, September 7th.
Our school day begins everyday at 9 am and ends each day at 3:20 pm. On the first day of school, we ask that your child arrives no later than 8:45am to the 6th Grade Entrance located on 4th Ave and 41st Street. You’ll see us outside on the first day ready to welcome your child to our Prep community!
On the first day of school, your student will meet their homeroom class and their homeroom teacher. At Prep, the first day of school is always Community Day for all grades! For our 6th graders, this first day is a chance to learn names, build community with classmates, get to know teachers, participate in activities, go to assemblies, learn about Prep, get a tour of the building, and get an introduction to middle school. It is always a GREAT first day at Sunset Park Prep!
As a reminder, we are NOT a uniform school. Students should come as they are. We are ready to welcome them!

As we return to school, we have some very exciting events planned for families. Save the dates for the following September events:
Virtual Back to School Night - Thursday, September 21st at 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Virtual PTA Meeting - Wednesday, September 27th at 6:30 pm
IN PERSON After-School Activities Fair and BBQ - Thursday, September 28th from 4 pm - 6 pm
Throughout the school year, we will communicate in many ways including phone calls home, automated phone calls home, paper flyers translated in many languages, and our monthly paper school calendar. A quick note that our long-time Parent Coordinator has retired this summer. We are in the process of bringing a new Parent Coordinator on board. The Parent Coordinator serves as the main point-of-contact and is an information hub for parents and while we transition a new Parent Coordinator to this role, feel free to reach out to Ms. Spalding (Principal), Ms. Scott (Assistant Principal) and Mr. Chan (Assistant Principal) for anything you may need.
