Happy Wednesday! We are writing with a few quick reminders and important updates:
1. Reminder: PTA Meeting THIS Thursday - May 20th at 7:15 pm. All parents are invited to attend our virtual PTA Meeting on Thursday. Here is the link: https://meet.google.com/pgd-wpiy-vuf
2. Picture Day for all students is next week! We have assigned days for students who are in person to get their photos taken, and will have a chance for students who are learning from home to come in, too!
3. We have dates for 8th grade families to mark in their calendars for end of year activities!

PICTURE DAYS next week!
We are excited to announce PICTURE DAYS for all students - in person and remote! - are next week. Students who are IN school will have a chance to get their picture taken in the morning when they are already in the building. Students who are learning remotely, who would like to come into Prep for pictures, will have the chance to come in during designated times through the auditorium door on 40th Street to snap a picture, and then return home.
This is the schedule:
· Tuesday, May 25th:
o Morning: All Group A in-person students
· Wednesday, May 26th:
o Morning: All Group B in-person students
o 12 pm - 2 pm: 8th-grade remote students (Group D)
· Thursday, May 27th:
o 9:30 am - 11:30 am: 7th grade remote students (Group D)
o 12 pm - 2 pm: Make-up pictures for anyone who missed their earlier time.
Once pictures have been taken, you will get an email from Irvin Simon Photographers with proofs of your child’s pictures, and will have the ability to order any photos you would like to keep!
Updates for 8th-Grade Families: Graduation Save the Dates, Regents, Grade 8 Science Test
Below are important updates for our 8th grade families on the following:

· Graduation Ceremony - Thursday, June 24th at 1 pm

Graduation Ceremony and Celebrations: Save the Dates!
Virtual Graduation Ceremony: Thursday, June 24 @ 1pm
Prep will be hosting a virtual graduation ceremony for all 8th graders, and their families, on Thursday, June 24th at 1 pm. The link to attend will be shared with all grade 8 students and families in advance. Stay tuned!
Outdoor Graduation Party!
We want to celebrate your student’s graduation from Prep! We will be hosting an outdoor party for 8th graders with food and music during graduation week, and we will be distributing awards! All students – both in person and remote – are encouraged to attend!
· 801, 804, 806: Monday, June 21st @ 12:45 pm
· 802, 803, 805: Tuesday, June 22nd @ 12:45 pm

Regents Updates
As of May 7th, these are the latest updates from New York State Education Department regarding 8th-grade students in Regents courses:
· Any student in grade 8 enrolled in Algebra I and/or Earth Science Regents courses at Prep who have passed the course (earning a 65 or higher on their final report card average) will be granted a waiver from the Regents exam(s).
o This means all grade 8 students that are passing their Regents courses at Prep do not have to take the Regents exams in June 2021 in order to receive high-school credit. All Regents students who pass the course this year will be automatically given a Regents credit that will be applied to their high-school graduation requirements. They will not have to take the exam this year or in high school to receive credit. The exam has been waived.
§ Note: If your Regents student does not pass the course this year, they will take the course again in high school to earn credit. This policy has not changed!
· Important Note: If your child is passing their Regents courses at Prep, they are already receiving a waiver and credit for the course. You do NOT need to take further action!
· What if your student wants to take the Regents exam even though they are passing, and will already receive high-school credit?
o Parents can opt in their Regents student to take the Regents exams in June as long as they are comfortable with the following:
§ Regents exams must be IN PERSON. There is no remote option for these exams.
§ New York State has not yet decided how students’ scores on the exams will impact students’ high-school transcripts. As of May 7th, “guidance is forthcoming.”
o Interested in opting in your student to take the Regents exams in June? Complete this form: Opt In to Regent(s) Test by Wednesday, May 26th
o Important Note: If you do not want your child to take the Regents exam in person since they are already receiving a waiver and credit for the course, you do NOT need to take further action!
Grade 8 Science Test: Optional this year!
For all Grade 8 science students that are not enrolled in Earth Science regents:
In a typical year, the Grade 8 science exam would be administered to students in their physical classroom. This year, many of our students are learning remotely, but the New York State Education Department (NYSED) has stated that exams must still take place in-person in the school building. It will not be possible to administer this exam remotely and as a result, this exam remains optional for students this school year.
The Grade 8 Science exam is not required for graduation and it is not connected to a student’s final grade at Prep. With that said, if you want your child to take this exam, please let us click on the Google Form below to let us know by Wednesday, May 26th.
