Dear Prep Community,

We want to wish everyone a happy and safe holiday break! It has been a challenging week for us all, but we remain grateful for our parents, families, students, and staff who continue to work tirelessly to keep our school community moving forward.

A reminder that unvaccinated students in the following classes were quarantined over the past few days, and will return to school on Monday, January 3rd:

6th Grade: 601, 603, 604, 605 (added today because of a new case), 606 and C02
7th Grade: B06, 703
8th Grade: B06, 801, 804, 805, 806

We have already notified all students, their families, and staff members who were in close contact. All classes are cleared to return on Monday, January 3, 2022.

If your student is tested over break and the test is positive, please get in touch with us, and include a copy or screenshot of the positive test result. Your student will need to quarantine 10 full days, and will not be able to return on January 3rd. We can help you calculate their return and ensure that they keep their classmates and teachers safe.

Are you getting vaccinated over break?

As we mentioned in yesterday’s email, you may be considering getting your child vaccinated. While it is not mandated yet by the New York City Department of Education, we encourage protecting your child with the vaccine.

If you do choose to get vaccinated or vaccinate your child, please know that our school has been selected to participate in New York City’s Vaccine Referral Bonus Initiative. You can receive $100 per person for the vaccine dose or booster. Additionally, you can refer our school to a city-run vaccination site by selecting our school’s name. By selecting our school, our Sunset Park Prep PTA receives a $100 referral bonus in addition to the $100 that YOU receive! To get get the bonus for Prep:

Select our school’s name in the referral field when making your appointment here: nyc.gov/vax4nyc (which also includes information about the check-in system for appointments, walk-ups, and at-home visits.).
When you register, there will be a question: “Were you referred for your vaccination by an organization as part of the NYC Vaccine Referral Bonus Program?” When you select “Yes,” you can type in “Sunset Park Prep Academy PTA”.
If you are walking up to the site, you can tell the vaccination site staff who check you in. They can look up our school and get us credit for the bonus!

By selecting our school, our Sunset Park Prep PTA receives a $100 referral bonus in addition to the $100 that YOU receive. Anyone can select our school for this bonus, not just students who attend Prep. Tell your family and friends!

Testing before we return from Winter Break

Thinking ahead to our return from break: we ask, if you are able, to help us keep our community safe by randomly testing your children outside of school before our return on Monday, January 3rd. This is especially important if you travel, gather with loved ones, and/or engage in any activities that could increase your exposure to COVID-19.

As always, if your child is sick with COVID-19 symptoms, please keep them home. We also recommend getting a COVID-19 test before returning to school, although this is not required. You can find free, city run COVID-19 testing sites here: https://www.nychealthandhospitals.org/covid-19-testing-sites/

Please note this is not a mandate or citywide policy, just a request from our community to help keep one another as safe as possible as we deal with this current surge in cases, and prepare for our return in January.

Finally, with so many students and classes out this week, we have elected to send home progress reports when all students return to school on 1/3/2022. In the meantime, feel free to check Pupilpath for the most updated grades.
