Schools fully remote starting 11/19, Parent Teacher Conferences still ON for tomorrow

Dear Prep families,

The Mayor and Chancellor have announced that New York City Public Schools will be going Remote Only as of TOMORROW, November 19th, 2020.

We had already planned a remote only day tomorrow for Parent Teacher Conferences. Parent Teacher Conferences are still happening!

We will address the change to remote learning tomorrow night following the PTA/SLT elections.

This new announcement means that all Cohorts - Groups A, B, C, and D - will move to Remote Only schedules on 11/20/20. In person students will not return to school on Friday but will learn from home.

We do not yet know when students will be able to return to the building. As soon as we learn more, we will let you know.

While this is a change, we are ready to meet the challenge of moving to remote learning!

How We Have Prepared for Remote Only:

Your student already has experience with their Remote Only schedule! We used this schedule at the start of the 2020-2021 school year, and when we needed to close the building on Monday, November 9, due to a positive COVID-19 test.
Your student has already built the strong, essential habit of checking their Prep Gmail every day at 9am!
Your student already has access to the Google Classrooms they need, as well as several online learning platforms that will give them remote access to content (i.e. iReady, Learning Ally, Actively Learn, and more).
We have distributed nearly 400 tech devices to ensure our students have what they need to work remotely.

Fast Facts about Prep’s Remote-Learning Plan:

Every morning by 9am, the Prep admin team will send an email to all students.
Every day, your child will have 3-5 live meetings and classes on Google Meet. Attendance is REQUIRED.
Every week, your child will be completing assignments on Google Classroom. These assignments are REQUIRED.
At the start of 2020-2021, your child was assigned an advisor! Your child’s advisor will continue to contact your child remotely every week as an extra layer of support, and connection.
Their advisor is a Prep staff member that will work closely with your student this school year. Your child can expect a digital reach out from their advisor every week. This is a great time for your student to ask questions, and get more specific directions on assignments, and due dates!

The Shape of the Week

Every day, students are expected to:

Check their Prep Gmail by 9am
Complete their “Morning Check In” form by 9:30 am so we can mark them present for the day (this form is sent every morning in their morning email)
Attend all LIVE classes on Google Meet
Work independently in their Google Classrooms

Every week, students can expect:

Every Monday morning, new assignments will be posted on your student’s Prep Google Classrooms (accessed through their Prep gmail account!).
Every Monday morning, students will have a “Morning Meeting” on Google Meet to learn about the week ahead and hear announcements. All students are expected to attend and we do take attendance.
Every Wednesday-Friday, your student’s advisor will be making contact to check in, and support.
Every Sunday by 9pm, students must make sure that all of their assignments for the week are complete, and submitted.

Su estudiante ya tiene acceso a las aulas de Google que necesita, así como a varias plataformas de aprendizaje en línea que le darán acceso remoto al contenido (es decir, iReady, Learning Ally, Actively Learn y más).
