Dear Prep Parents and Guardians,

We are reaching out today to give you updates on where we stand in our preparations to return to school this fall, to tell you about opportunities to discuss fall preparations further, and to share some links and resources.

The DOE has asked all schools to prepare for students to return to school in a hybrid learning model, with an alternating schedule of in-person instruction and remote-learning at home.

Please know that as we think ahead to fall, your child’s safety is our first priority. To ensure a safe transition back to the school building in the fall, we are working as a school community on:

Preparing the physical space for return: this includes extensively sanitizing and deep cleaning classrooms, shared spaces and setting up all rooms to comply with Center for Disease Control guidelines.
Creating smaller groups of students within a homeroom for in-person learning.
Developing curriculum and a schedule that is flexible and responsive to student needs.
Working with our school nurse and NYU Langone to create comprehensive health procedures, requiring all staff and students to wear face coverings while in the building, and establishing building protocols to keep everyone safe.

We know we are facing a confusing and uncertain time, and we understand our students and families have many questions and thoughts about the year ahead. To learn more from our families regarding your questions, concerns, and ideas for the fall, and to provide a space for dialogue, we invite you to attend a Town Hall for Prep Families. We will hold two sessions:

At the Town Hall for Prep Families, we will share what is guiding our decision making, preview the model we are considering for in-person and remote learning, and discuss the survey the DOE is asking families to complete if they would like to opt out of in-person learning. Prep also has a survey we are asking all families to complete, which has a place to ask us questions directly, and also gives us information about siblings at Prep and in other schools as we prepare schedules for fall.

The deadline for the Prep and DOE survey is August 7th. All families are asked to complete the Prep survey. Link is here: https://forms.gle/7jfAGi8GMm3jGshF6. If you would like to learn more about the different models or ask questions of DOE officials making decisions about the return to school, the DOE is hosting city-wide, public sessions on the following days from 6:30 pm - 8 pm:
