-- Prep Families, Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigated these last few weeks of opening and closing in person learning. We are writing today with a few reminders and updates:

  1. Spring Break is next week - Monday, March 29th through Friday, April 2nd. There are no meetings or online classes. More information below.

  2. Interested in having your student come back to in person learning? The Mayor and Chancellor have opened the survey. You can indicate your interest in having your student return sometime this spring. Please read below for more information on what this means and how to do it.

  3. Is your student in person but you would like them to learn from home instead? You can make this change at any time, but once you move to remote you may not be able to come back to in person learning if the survey is closed. Read more about how to do this below.

  4. Follow-up from our PTA Meeting at the beginning of this month, including our Amazon Wishlist

  5. Reminder about consenting to random COVID-19 testing for anyone learning in person.

  6. Another look at our in person calendar.

Read below for all these updates. We hope you and your family are safe, healthy, and enjoy this Spring Break time together! As always, thank you for your partnership. Best, Ms. Spalding - Principal Ms. Scott - Assistant Principal Ms. Deliz - Parent Coordinator Spring Break is next week - Monday, March 29th through Friday, April 2nd. There are no meetings or online classes. Students may have some brief assignments to complete independently, but we encourage all students and families to enjoy the break safely! Before we return to in person learning, we ask that all families take extra precautions to stay safe over Spring Break, to get free COVID tests to be sure that students are ready to return, and to monitor student’s health at home. We must all work diligently to keep our school community safe and protected, so that we can return to the building and stay open! If you plan to travel this break, please note the following COVID-19 safety guidelines for in person students to be able to return to the school building: DOMESTIC TRAVEL:

  • If your student travels to any state outside of New York other than New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, or Vermont, for more than 24 hours, they must do the following to be able to return to Prep after Spring Break:

  • Take a COVID-19 test within 72 hours PRIOR to their arrival in New York, quarantine for at least three days upon arrival in New York, and take a second COVID-19 test on the 4th day AFTER arrival.

  • Get negative results on both tests OR complete a 10 day quarantine.

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL:

  • If your student travels outside of the United States during Spring Break, they must do a longer quarantine than domestic travel. To return to the school building, they must:

  • Complete a 7 day quarantine and take a COVID-19 test 3 to 5 days after arrival in New York.

  • Get a negative result OR complete a 10 day quarantine.

Please note that depending on when your student returns from out of state or another country, they might have to miss in person school days in order to satisfy all safety guidelines. Opting IN or OUT of In Person Learning REMINDER: If you are satisfied with the group your child is in now - In Person or Remote Only - and you do not want to make any changes, you do NOT have to take any additional action! Information on how to opt into in person from remote… Last week, Mayor De Blasio reversed his policy and decided to offer another opportunity for families to opt their student into in person learning. The deadline is Wednesday, April 7th. Any family interested in opting their child into in person learning, must fill out the Learning Preference Survey online no later than April 7th.   • Note that space for in person learning at Prep is limited due to COVID-19 capacity restrictions, and we will strive to accommodate all survey responses.

If you need help completing the survey, you should contact Ms. Deliz at edeliz@schools.nyc.gov or by phone at 646-942-3106. She can help! The city has not yet announced when newly admitted in person students begin classes at school buildings. A member of the Prep admin team will reach out to all families who have completed the survey when we know more details. Information on how to change students from in person to remote… If your plans have changed, and your child is currently an in person student, but you would like them to be remote, you need to fill out this survey online: https://www.nycenet.edu/surveys/learningpreference Please note you can choose remote only at any time from now until the end of the 2020-2021 school year. If you need help completing the survey to move to remote, you should contact Ms. Deliz at edeliz@schools.nyc.gov or by phone at 646-942-3106. She can help! REMINDER: If you are satisfied with the group your child is in now - In Person or Remote Only - and you do not want to make any changes, you do NOT have to take any additional action! PTA Meeting Follow-Up Our PTA met earlier this month to discuss Parent Teacher Conferences, PupilPath and Report Cards, ELA and Math state testing (no information yet!), and outdoor learning. Our next PTA meeting is the evening of Thursday, April 15th. We will share details as the date approaches. If you would like to help support our efforts to move some classes and activities outside once the weather warms, we invite you to check out our Amazon Wishlist: Amazon Wishlist for Outdoor Learning. You can purchase anything from a clipboard to a big tent to help Prep have an awesome outdoor learning set-up! No pressure to help and please only support if you are interested and able. We know the pandemic has been very difficult. COVID Consent Form To come to school in person, EVERY in-person student must turn in a DOE Covid consent for testing form. All students must have this form signed. Students who do not have consent will not be able to return to in person learning. Ways you can do this:

  • If you still need to provide consent, you can submit it electronically through your My Schools Account. Find out more information by clicking HERE: https://www.schools.nyc.gov/learning/student-journey/nyc-schools-account

  • If you need help with your My Schools Account, you can contact Ms. Deliz at edeliz@schools.nyc.gov or by phone at 646-942-3106. You can also sign the consent form and email it to Ms. Lupe in the Main Office. Here email is gjimenez4@schools.nyc.gov.

  • We are distributing paper copies of this form to all in-person students. Students must return their signed form when they come back to the building.
